Joan Wood joined the company in September 2017 and is responsible for Karyopharm’s human resources strategy and operations.
Joan has over twenty years’ experience in Human Resources leadership roles, in multiple industries and in both large and small companies. Immediately prior to joining Karyopharm, Joan served as Head of Human Resources for Sarepta Therapeutics where she supported the company through the development of their first NDA, followed by hiring and onboarding of their commercial organization, and early stages of commercial launch. Prior to Sarepta, Joan served for ten years as Senior Vice President of Global Leadership Development at Genzyme where she was a member of the senior HR leadership team and worked closely with the CHRO and CEO to develop and evolve Genzyme’s approaches to talent management, management and leadership development, and succession planning. As part of her role at Genzyme she worked closely with the Chief Medical Officer to introduce and implement the company’s team-based approach to drug development. Joan was responsible for Genzyme’s diversity efforts and MBA recruiting program. Joan and her team were also instrumental in the development and coaching of scores of current and aspiring General Managers based in Europe, Asia and Latin America as well as the United States.
Joan earned her B.A. in Special Education and Child Study from Saint Joseph University and holds her Master’s Degree in Educational Media and Technology from Boston University. Joan completed the Greater Boston Executive Development Program at the Sloan School of Management at MIT.
